You know the times when it seems like everything is going wrong all at once? I had one of those weeks. But it gave me the opportunity to learn a valuable lesson I'll be able to use in all kinds of situations. I hope you'll be able to use it too.

How to Increase Your Energy Without Exercise or Dieting?

For three weeks, our pool has been green and murky. I've called the pool guy every day. This week, the service light on the refrigerator started blinking and the temperature skyrocketed. They "fixed" it, charged $600 and it broke again the next day. Then the router broke, my computer broke, and I had five hours of unexpected dental work. Finally as I was tucking in for the night, I felt something, like a pebble, in my mouth. It was the temporary cap the dentist had put in that day.

Three weeks earlier, when it was just the pool, I'd get all grumbly every time I looked at it (that takes energy). Now that so much more had gone "wrong" I was feeling a lot worse than grumbly (and using lots of energy). But as they say, the universe sends out quizzes and by the time I sat staring at the temporary cap cupped in my palm I realized this was my quiz.

And I knew the answer. Eventually everything breaks. It's one of those universal truths they forgot to mention in college. It's going to happen again and again and again. So there is no reason--absolutely no reason--to get upset about it. Try what I've found works, and see if it works for you.

  • Take a breath and look at whatever it is (right this minute it's my washing machine).
  • Say to yourself "It was time for this to break".
  • Immediately schedule the repair.
  • Don't think about it again. If it pops into your mind, label the thought as "thinking about ____________ (the broken item)" and let it go.
  • Go on about your life and enjoy yourself!

Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions and I'll meet you in The Coaching Corner next week for Follow this Rule and Your Life will Improve Immediately.

Warmly,
Dee
